ABOUT

This world is but a canvas to our imagination.

                       - Henry David Thoreau

As an artist, I have power to affect people. My goal of becoming an architect is to provide people with joy and inspiration. When someone walks into a space I create, I want them to feel something. Whether it be whimsical and youthful, calming and peaceful, or surprising and unexpected, as an architect, I will have the power to do that.

In my mind, my home city of Boston seemed to be the most beautiful place on Earth (I still see it that way). But realizing my narrow view on the world, I begged my parents to travel. I saw Chicago, Seattle, New York, and Portland; noticing the way American cities have evolved and modernized. Then I saw old cities like Quito, and Athens. With camera in hand I captured the inspiring and organic shapes worn by time in the ancient cities. Then I saw Rome, Venice, Zurich, Munich, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris; my mind overwhelmed with colors, textures, patterns, and ambiance that engulfs these cities. Opening my eyes to all of the inspiration and variety of culture, architecture and art, turned this childhood dream of creating art, into my career goal.

I've continued on this trajectory towards becoming an architect by starting my education at the University of Oregon's Interior Architecture Program. I always believed that buildings could be as beautiful as nature, but the most beautiful thing was when buildings, nature, and people could all live in a symbiotic relationship. Green design quickly became a passion close to my heart. When I visited the Amazon Rainforest, I got to see first-hand, the damage that careless design is causing to the natural ecosystems. My passion for the issue continues to grow with every statistic and study done on the topic. I firmly believe that architects have the power to change the way our cities are built, and the way our buildings and people live in cohesion with the environment. I look forward to joining that revolution and putting my stamp on the new innovation and creativity that awaits us.

But architecture and design are not the only art forms I use to express and translate my experiences. As you can see in my portfolio, ceramics and 2D art also allow me to express my creativity. My father always pushed me to create things with my hands, and try using new media without the fear of failure. I've adapted that mindset and it has allowed me to broaden the way I look at art, translate my own inspiration, and create an individual aesthetic that reflects who I am and what I love. I hope my work can inspire people to see beyond what they think is possible for them to achieve and dig in to what inspires them to create.
